FAQ about RE at BUC
Is BUC doing religious education in-person or online?
Both! Programming for K-12 is offered on Sunday mornings, in-person at BUC. Masks and registration are required. 6th-12th grade classes are multiplatform, with the option to Zoom into the classroom. Additionally, we offer a "Take-Home RE" program with instructions for doing simple UU practices at home. Check out our Facebook page for this All Ages offering, posted each Friday. For more information on BUC's RE offerings, see our About page.
What is your Covid safety policy?
Masks are currently required for all RE children, youth, and teachers ages 5 and up, regardless of vaccination status. We continue to track CDC guidelines, state and school policies, and the guidance of BUC's Reopening Task Force. Any changes to this policy will be communicated here, via email, and on BUC's Facebook page.
How do I sign up?
Register here! When you register your child(ren), we add your email to our mailing list so you receive the information, Zoom links, and more necessary for participation in the program. Registration also includes a media release, mask agreement, and other important permissions questions. Register at any point during the year.
What about visitors?
Visitors are welcome to come check out our program! Before attending, please check the RE Calendar; we hold monthly All-Ages services where RE takes place in worship, not in the classrooms. When you arrive, the RE Assistant will show your family where to go and answer any questions. Masks are required at all in-person programming, and BUC's policy is to ask families to register after attending three times as a visitor.
Can I send the Zoom link and/or Take-Home RE posts to my friends?
Absolutely! One of the best ways to build the BUC community is through the connections to the wider community that our members already have. You are welcome to send any public information to your friends. It is helpful but not required to inform the RE Director or Assistant that a visitor may join one of our classes via Zoom. After attending as a visitor three times, they will be asked to formally register.
Is there a charge for the program?
The religious education program is entirely funded from the church operating budget. All families who benefit from this program are asked to pledge as generously as their finances allow.
Where can I get more information?
Email Director of Religious Education Nico Van Ostrand, or look for the RE Assistant in-person on Sunday mornings.
