Frequently Asked Questions about RE at BUC

Parents are welcome to call the RE Office (248) 647-2380 during the week to schedule a conference or a tour of the building.

What time should we arrive?

Our preschool, elementary age, junior-high, and high-school children have class during the 10:30 a.m. service, from September through mid-June.

What about visitors?

Visitors are always welcome, whether they come on their own or as guests. Visiting families are invited to pick up a contact form from the Greeters in the foyer, or from the basket on the glass table if no one is present.

What about Sunday morning childcare for infants & toddlers?

Our nursery staff welcomes infants and toddlers in the nursery every Sunday beginning at 10:15 a.m.

What happens when we first arrive on Sunday morning?

Nursery and preschool children go directly to their classroom when they first arrive on a Sunday morning. The Kindergarten through 5th-grade youngsters begin most Sundays in the Sanctuary (September through early June). After the Message for All Ages, the K-5th grade children are guided out of the Sanctuary to attend their classes. Youth classes (6th through 12th grade) take place during the service. The youth go directly to their classrooms unless they are participating in or attending the service in the Sanctuary.

What if my child has a serious allergy or special needs?

Parents are responsible for noting any allergies food restrictions or special needs on the registration form, as well as alerting the teachers or caregivers. Allergies, and special needs will be taken into account as we become aware of them.

When should we register?

You do not need to be a member to register a child/youth for the RE program. Every family should register each year by completing or updating their family information sheet. New families should register if they have attended two classes and plan to attend regularly. Registration materials are available in the RE office (in the hallway heading towards the Commons).

Is there a charge for the program?

The religious education program is entirely funded from the church-operating budget. All families are asked to pledge as generously as their finances allow.

Do you have any suggestions for newcomers?

Sunday mornings are full of many different activities and people zipping around. We regret that we are often distracted. Please introduce yourself! Feel free to ask questions and directions from the other parents. We want you to feel a part of this community. And we appreciate everything you do to make that happen. We frequently notice that the children and youth have the opportunity to become friends long before the adults do... be sure to get us your contact info!

Where can I get more information?

On Sunday mornings, the Director of Religious Education is available to answer questions.
