Birmingham
Unitarian Church is multi-building complex fully integrated into a
campus-like setting in Bloomfield Hills. The sanctuary, the pavilion, and
the adjoining social hall
offer a pleasant setting for weddings, retreats, lectures and an acoustically
outstanding venue for concerts and recitals. A state-of-the-art commercial kitchen
adjacent to the social hall is also available. A number of
smaller rooms, each opening onto courtyards, are appropriate for small group
meetings. All are wheelchair accessible and have on-site parking. The church
welcomes renters of all faiths.
Sanctuary
With seating of up to 300, our sanctuary offers a
spectacular view in all seasons through large windows overlooking a pristine
woods. Our exceptional 7-foot Steinway and outstanding acoustics make this a
popular venue for recitals and concerts.
Pavilion
An intimate setting for small weddings, recitals,
or meetings, this room seats up to 60 people at tables or 80 audience-style.
Carpeted, grand piano, galley kitchen. Also can be included as a reception room
for the sanctuary.
Social Hall
Newly enlarged and renovated, this outstanding
banquet facility is air conditioned and boasts a brand-new commercial kitchen.
Sets up to 160 at tables or 250 audience-style. Round or rectangular tables and
stage platforms are available.
Commons
A carpeted meeting room with kitchen, private
entrance, spinet piano. Seats 50 at tables, 60 audience-style
Classrooms
Several classrooms are available for gatherings
of up to 20 people. Each has a private covered entrance its own restroom.
Conference Room
Meeting room with comfortable seating for 16 at
tables.
Rental Policies

While reservations are placed on the church calendar immediately upon request,
they cannot be confirmed until a signed contract, and deposit when requested, is
received by the church administrator. Sanctuary rentals require 50% of rent at
time of contract.

Full
rental payment is required ten days before the event.

A
damage deposit is required for parties, to be forfeited in part or in total
should the facilities be damaged or unexpected clean-up result.

Under special circumstances the church may choose to underwrite a non-profit
activity consistent with Unitarian Universalist values by reducing or waiving
rental fees. Any potential renter wishing such rate reduction or waiver must
request in writing at least 45 days before the date needed. Requests are made
through the church administrator and require approval by the minister.

Non-UU-affiliated
programs which, in the judgment of the minister, may be perceived to have
religious content, may not rent BUC facilities without permission of the
minister.

Program descriptions and printed publicity for the event must be submitted
through church administrator and approved by the minister before promulgation.
Failure to comply may result in revocation of the rental contract. All
program publicity must include the statement, as worded, that “This program is
not sponsored by and may not reflect the views of the Birmingham Unitarian
Church.”
Renter’s Responsibilities
All aspects of the
agreement, including damage costs, are the responsibility of the contract
signer. The church rents to personally-responsible individuals, not to
vaguely-defined organizations or groups. The contract signer is responsible for
enforcing the following rules:

Facilities must be left clean.

In the sanctuary, no food or
beverages are allowed.

No open flames or burning of any
substance without permission of the minister.

When leaving after church
business hours, all lights must be turned off, heat or air conditioning
turned down, and windows and doors locked.

When kitchen is rented: stoves,
sink, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and coffee pots may be used;
renters must supply their own consumables, table cloths, table setting, and
decorations.

Damage to walls, floors,
equipment, furnishings or the room(s) reserved during the time designated
above will be deducted from the deposit or billed to the contract signer.

Rooms not reserved and paid for
are off limits.

The PA system and other
audio-visual equipment are not available to renters.

Smoking is allowed outside the
building only.

Decorations or displays and
alterations of existing room arrangements require prior approval by the
office manager.

Wine and beer may be served as
long as no fee or charge of any type is paid by persons attending.
Further, the renter must comply with all tenets of the law regarding
alcoholic beverages.
